10 Best Locations for Engagement Photos on Oahu

We've photographed engagement sessions at nearly every well-known location on Oahu — and dozens of hidden spots most people never find. This list is built from hundreds of real sessions, not theory.

1. Lanikai Beach — East Oahu

The crown jewel of Oahu beach photography. The calm turquoise water, white sand, and the iconic Mokulua Islands create a backdrop that looks almost too beautiful to be real. Lanikai faces east, which means golden hour is actually late afternoon — plan your session accordingly. Arrive early because parking is limited to street parking in the neighborhood.

2. Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail — East Oahu

An elevated perspective with 180-degree ocean views. The paved trail is easy, and the clifftop vistas are dramatic without feeling dangerous. We love shooting here in the late afternoon when the light hits the cliffs from the west and the ocean turns deep blue.

3. Nu'uanu Pali Lookout — Central Oahu

On clear days, the Ko'olau mountains backdrop here is breathtaking. Be prepared for significant wind — it's part of the drama. Early morning light works beautifully at the Pali, before afternoon clouds typically build over the mountains.

4. Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden — Kaneohe

Lush jungle paths, towering palms, and a misty Ko'olau mountain backdrop. This location is perfect for couples who want something that doesn't scream "Hawaii beach" — it's romantic, green, and timeless. Opens at 9am, closes at 4pm. No commercial photography without a permit.

5. Kualoa Ranch — Windward Oahu

You've seen this location in Jurassic Park, Lost, and dozens of films. The valley floor surrounded by dramatic ridgelines is absolutely epic. Requires a commercial photography permit and coordination with ranch management — we handle all of this for our clients.

6. Ko Olina Lagoons — West Oahu

Four man-made lagoons with calm water, white sand, and sunset views directly over the Pacific. This is our go-to for couples staying at Ko Olina resorts, and also great for families with young children because the water is calm and shallow.

7. Waimanalo Beach — Windward Oahu

One of Oahu's longest beaches, usually less crowded than the South Shore. The Ko'olau mountains frame the background perfectly, giving you that combination of ocean and jungle that defines Hawaii's visual identity.

8. Diamond Head Crater Lookout — Honolulu

The iconic view from inside Diamond Head State Monument offers sweeping Honolulu coastline vistas. Best at sunrise before crowds arrive. Requires an entry fee and advance registration through Hawaii State Parks.

9. Sharks Cove / Pupukea — North Shore

Rocky tidal pools, dramatic lava formations, and crystal-clear water. Best in summer when the water is calm. The texture and color of the volcanic rock against the ocean is unlike anything else on the island.

10. Tantalus / Round Top Drive — Honolulu

A hidden gem. Wind your way up through lush forest to sweeping views of Honolulu and Diamond Head. Quiet, romantic, and completely different from any beach location. Perfect for couples who want something unique.

How to Choose the Right Location for You

The best location is the one that reflects who you are as a couple. Beach people? Lanikai. Adventure seekers? Makapu'u. Jungle romantics? Ho'omaluhia. When you book with us, we'll ask a few questions about your style and then recommend the 2–3 locations that fit your vision, the season, and the light on your specific date.
